Alex Brooks



Alex is a sport and employment solicitor in our Employment and Sports teams.


Alex advises on the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment law and HR issues and acts for both employers and individuals on Employment Tribunal and High Court claims, including for unfair dismissal, discrimination, breach of contract and whistleblowing.

Alex’s clients include organisations from the sports, education, financial services, public, technology, life sciences, retail and leisure sectors. He also advises individuals and senior executives on terms of employment, exit packages and post-termination restrictions, providing support in litigation and during the negotiation of settlements.

As well as being a regular author of articles and commentary pieces for employment-related websites and magazines, Alex has drafted a variety of courses and seminars. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and provides training on employment law issues for clients.


Alex regularly acts for football managers, coaches, players and other members of staff in relation to employment disputes. He also advises sports executives in relation to their appointment at professional sports clubs and on issues that may arise upon the termination of their appointments. Alex is also experienced in acting on behalf of professional athletes across a range of sports in relation to doping allegations, including in arbitration proceedings appealing against bans for anti-doping violations.

Alex joined Thomas Cooper in 2016, having trained at Penningtons Manches between 2013-2015 and qualified as an Associate at Penningtons Manches into their Employment team in 2015. Alex studied law at the University of Leicester, including a year studying abroad at University of Copenhagen in 2010-2011, and he completed his LPC at Oxford Institute of Legal Practice in 2012-2013.
