Nicholas is the head of the Dispute Resolution Group. He is a commercial litigation specialist and his experience encompasses a wide range of commercial matters including all forms of security documentation, letters of credit, insurance and finance related litigation with particular emphasis on Structured Products.
Nicholas also advises on domestic and international arbitrations principally in the insurance and energy sectors.
- Camerata Property Inc v Credit Suisse Securities (Europe) Ltd  EWHC 479 (Comm) – represented a client in a claim related to structured product investments in Lehman Brothers.
- Sugar Hut Group Ltd v Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) Plc EWHC 2636 (Comm) – acted for an insured on a policy wording dispute initially against underwriters and subsequently against brokers.
- Blue Sphere Global Limited v HMRC  EWCA Civ 517 – represented the only successful taxpayer in the test case on the transposition and interpretation of the ECJ’s Kittel test involving over £8 billion of VAT.
Nicholas joined Thomas Cooper in 1976 as an articled clerk and became a partner in 1981. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights. Nicholas read law at Pembroke College, Oxford.
